Humboldt Baykeeper has been following Caltrans' Eureka-Arcata 101 Corridor Safety Improvement Project since 2007, when the Draft Environmental Impact Report was released. Caltrans proposes to improve safety along this 8-mile stretch of highway adjacent to the Humboldt Bay shoreline between Arcata and Eureka.

More than 500 people have signed an online petition asking Caltrans to reschedule a meeting on proposed U.S. Highway 101 safety corridor improvements so that the hearing can be held in Eureka.

The $23 million improvement project, which includes adding signals and an interchange on the stretch of U.S. Highway 101 between Eureka and Arcata, is slated to go before the California Coastal Commission at its May meeting in San Rafael.

“Our immediate concern is that the meeting is going to be held 250 miles away,” Humboldt Baykeeper said.
